IDPR Coordinates Avalanche Awareness Class In Coeur D’Alene (Idaho)

Boise, ID – The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) will be presenting a snowmobile-centered, basic, avalanche awareness class in Coeur d’Alene on December 17, 2009. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.

The seminar will be held on Thursday, December 17, from 6-9 p.m. at Specialty Recreation, 772 W Kathleen Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

The Coeur d’Alene Snowmobile Club will provide hot dogs and chili.

The field segment of this class will be held at a later date.

“We’re offering a variety of classroom and field sessions this year, to accommodate individuals across the state,” said Rich Gummersall, IDPR Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Education Coordinator. “With an increase in avalanche related accidents in the state, educating the public has become a priority”.

Classes are limited to 50 participants and will fill up fast. To sign up, please call Marc Hildesheim at (208) 769-1511 before Monday, December 14.

Boise NF-Emmett Ranger District Begins Travel Planning

The Boise National Forest continues their Travel Planning and is now working on portions of the Emmett Ranger District. There are a total of 216,193 acres, comprising some 65 percent of the Ranger District, that have not gone through a complete National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) decision process for route designation. These acres are comprised of the “E” travel management areas identified on the current Boise National Forest Visitor/Travel Map. Public motorized travel in “E” areas currently utilizes established user-created routes, as well as formally designated routes.

Public Meetings Continue for BLM’s New Resource Management Plan

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Boise District is beginning a new Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Four Rivers Planning Area. The RMP will address management of over 783,000 acres of public lands located in nine west-central and southwestern counties. The counties include Adams, Valley, Washington, Payette, Gem, Boise, Canyon, Ada and Elmore.
