Klamath Falls, OR – The Fremont-Winema National Forests have received $675,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to fund deferred road maintenance projects.
“Investing in the Forest transportation system to accomplish deferred maintenance work will provide jobs in both Klamath and Lake Counties, protect water quality, enhance visitor experience and promote safety,” said Karen Shimamoto, Forest Supervisor.
The following Forest Service (FS) road maintenance projects were funded:
Lake County:
- Deferred road maintenance on roads serving the following stewardship projects:
Abe Stewardship #1, Abe Stewardship #2, Launch Stewardship, Dent South Stewardship - Roadside brush cutting
Klamath County:
- Pavement grinding on the FS Road 3716 (Fishhole Road)
- Replace Varney Creek Bridge on FS Road 3500020
- Incorporate fine aggregate into surface of FS Road 94
- Roadside brush cutting
The Forest currently manages almost 7,000 miles of road on 2.3 million acres. Roads provide Americans access to National Forest System lands for their livelihoods and enjoyment. A safe and well-managed Forest transportation system allows citizens to participate in hiking, touring, wildlife viewing, skiing, fishing, camping, hunting, boating, and many other outdoor activities. It is also critical to local and regional economies because it is a key element that supports businesses and activities that occur within or adjacent to these lands.
