  1. Default looking for places worth visiting

I am putting together a route, similar to OBDR, that runs from the end of the Clatsop Spit on the north end, to the California border near Brookings, ranging between the coastline and the Coast Range. A route like this should be memorable and something that people will want to drive for the visual appeal, historical interest, or some other draw. Where possible, it will be on public land (BLM, USFS, State Forest, or other) so that folks can be guaranteed that they will have access. Also, it needs to be on a road that continues on. No sites that have only one road in and the same road out.

Do any of you have any recommendations of sites to visit?

I already have about a hundred miles on the north end done between Fort Stevens, Gearhart, Youngs River Falls, and the Columbia River near Knappa. The only thing I know of that is next on my route is Nicolai Mountain.

Excellent project! I don't have any contributions other than to say it sounds like a darned good plan.

I created a route from the Columbia near Knappa down the coast range to Mary's Peak.

Interesting project. Got me out and about but I think it took me several years of exploring as I recall.

That was 5 - 6 years ago. Let me know if you would like more info.

Toy Man, I would be interested in any information you have, whatever you are willing to share.

Since I made this post, I spoke with a friend in Medford. He is going to work on organizing a trip from the Brookings end this June. We are estimating several days to about the mid-point. Those that wish to go further north, can. If anyone is interested in going on the trip with us, let me know and I will add your name to the list of interested parties.

I probably will post about it here in another month or so.

Do you have the National Geographics TOPO! program?

If not I can generate waypoints to a .gpx file and send it to you.

I may be interested in the June trip. Add me to the list.

    Toy Man,

I have one that is about four years old. I will take what you have. If it is more than 10MB, let me know and I will give you a different address.

I will let you know. I will probably make a posting on here and one other site, but details will be e-mailed.

Are you making any headway on this trip? I would like to tag along for sure. There are so many locked gates down here now you never know when they are going to be open or closed. Are you putting any hwy stretches or keeping hwy to a minimum? There is the Old stage Road that goes between Tillamook and Yamhill that the stage coaches use to travel that is normally open. On the way to Sand Lake there is a svc road that takes off and goes thru to Pacific City. If I can be of help let me know and I can check with the local Forest Service agency for open gates. You probably know that Tillamook has a great air museum. There is a Indian Museum near Strawberry Mt., what a fun run that would be. I'm sure you would probably want to visit the Oregon Dunes as well.......
