Thread: Camping in the North Casscades

  1. Camping in the North Casscades

    Hello Everyone,
I'm been viewing the forum for awhile, but I just joined so this is my first post. If I make any mistakes or break any rules, let me know. I'm coming back from deployment soon and I'm looking to do some car camping in the North Cascades. I've been around the Burlington Area for awhile, but most of my outdoor trips have been hiking, hunting, or climbing. Not much of that has been vehicle accessible. I've got my FJ80 built up to sleep in now, so that my wife can come along and enjoy the outdoors with me again. I burnt her out on the long backpacking trips. I've been debating Harts Pass, which I've hiked to but always seems crowded, and Twin Lakes, which I've heard is nice but I know nothing about. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks for the help and for a great forum.
    -Ross

  4. I'm a member over at NWHikers. I am looking for a little more off the beaten path "vechicle friendly" spots. Thanks for the info though.

  5. Most any of the forestry rds and such up in this area have small places you can get off the beaten path and find little away places to camp. Thats what we do nad we have found a few beautiful places to get away from ppls! Drop me a pm with your phone and we can gab about it.

  6. Twin Lakes is great place to do drive to for some camping or car camping. When you finally get the top it feels a little weird because they're alpine lakes that one is usually used to hiking miles in to, but instead you can just drive right up in your truck. The road is pretty mild but rough enough to keep things interesting/entertaining. I wouldn't take a sedan up, but it didn't require 4WD either. The only downside is it's a bit crowded the times I've been up there, quite a few cars at the top. It'll probably be snowed in for a while yet, but keep checking the FS site for road updates as to when the road is open all the way to the top.

  7. Thanks I'll probally drive up to check it out the end of the month

  9. Sounds like a perfect description of Twin Lakes off Mt Baker Hwy.

Some great scenery is easily accessible from the top parking area.
