Default I90 remote areas?

Anyone know of where all you can explore/4wheel up near snoqualmie pass? I have been trying to find out which roads are gated... almost everything is it seems! I tried exit 38, which goes a ways, but is pretty boring. tinkham rd doesnt go very far at all, and the road that follows the river near exit 34 by the truck stop is gated before the fallls, (not very far) Looking for a way to get way out there with some good views. I see there are a lot of FS roads up near the reservoir but most are gated when I get there...

Thanks

Chris

You already found what's available on the West side. There aren't any real trails (that a VW can't drive) until you get to Cle Elum.

A little later in the year, I'm going to try to talk Jerry into leading a trip around Manastash Ridge from teh I-90 side. I also want to drive into Lester-Stampede pass this year.

The next nearest off road area is Evans Creek on the NW corner of Mt Rainier, out of Wilkeson.

I would say Reiter is closer than Evans.

I think it's pretty much even from Bellevue. He already knows Reiter very well.

I think the North Fork of the Snoqualmie is still gated but I haven't checked in years.

There certainly seems to be a lot of logging roads between Lake Hancock and Calligan Lake but I'd hate to get locked in.

I will do my best to accommodate you, but you should know we can no longer drive into Lester. The old town site is located within the City of Tacoma water shed and the roads are gated. Forest Service roads cross Stampede Pass as well reach the top of Yakima Pass, cross Meadowbrook Pass, Tacoma Pass and Green Pass; all located within a few miles of each other.

Maybe I can twist my friend Clay's arm to help out in guiding us around the Manastash Ridge area. If we are talking Ford Explorers on 33" tires we can go most places on Manastash, otherwise our route will be limited by vehicle size and modifications.

Yes, I would likley be the 'little dog' of any Explorer group and should have the Trac-Loc rebuilt by then.

Thanks Jerry

If you're worried about body damage from Reiter stay away from Evans.

We use it frequently to access other roads within the Wenas Road Management Area and have driven it often on our Backroad Drivers Northwest travels. If you are looking for road systems similar try the L.T. Murray near Cle Elum and the Whiskey Dick, Quilomene and Colockum near Ellensburg. Also the Oak Creek to the west of Wenas, closer to Naches. We have some weekday tours coming up in those areas, including a run to the Colockum on June 11th.
