Chris, would you happen to have Fridays off? We had an excellent turnout on our last Friday trip and I am thinking of changing future mid-week tours to Fridays exclusively; except the Colockum Tour which has already been announced for this Wednesday, the 11th.

and the road that follows the river near exit 34 by the truck stop is gated before the fallls,
I assume you are referring to Cedar Falls on the south side of the freeway and you probably already explored the Middle Fork, but here is my assessment of it anyway. Exit 34 also accesses the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie, a road on the north side of the freeway that I found to be interesting; jarring and bumpy without much view, but interesting. The Middle Fork, FR 56, passes Dingford Falls and takes you to Goldmyer Hot Springs before ending at a trail head to Dutch Miller Mines and Williams Lake. You don't need 4-wheel drive, but you will be glad you had high ground clearance.

Another possibility is the Miller River. It's been a long time since I heard mention of the Miller River 4x4 trails, mainly because I don't frequent the forums I once did or maybe the trails have been closed. But, you might check into that possibility. The Miller River is located a little west of Skykomish on the south side of Highway 2.

sadly middle fork is gated just before dingford falls.

they gated a LOT of it off recently. theres only 1 or 2 main roads you can get on, and a side road that you can drive over a ditch to get to

i have a wierd schedule... 2 weekends a month off, some weekdays here and there.... some fridays... different every month (rotating 12s)

That's really too bad. I hate to hear it. Between DNR and private forest products companies closing roads there isn't much left for motorized recreation in the Puget Sound area. It is definitely a trend that may necessitate selling our SUV's and buying multiple pairs of hiking boots.

Just curious, has anyone from Backroad Drivers Northwest contacted the logging companies for permission and/or gate keys so they could access some of these otherwise gated trails with their blessings? Is that even possible, I wonder?

thats a good idea.. I don't think they are going to give up keys to joe schmoe, but it might be worth a try.

Ive been thinking about giving up car exploring altogether and just getting an enduro bike, to get around gates

I understand your exasperation with all the road closures nowadays, and I am right there with you in attitude. Going around the gates is something many of us say we would like to do (as our teeth are clenched...again), but I assume you are just venting. I thought I had better mention, for the sake of those who might think otherwise, that Backroad Drivers Northwest neither endorses nor condones trespassing in any form, including going around locked gates.

Yeah, sorry, just got a little irritated. A moto wouldn't work anyway... No room for the tent and wife .. Its just hard seeing your fav roads dissapear. The forest service and dnr should get the funding they need to keep our wilderness accessable, and to keep deteriorating roads fixed to save streams etc... Ok enough ranting.. I just bought a new mountain bike so I can legally go beyond the gates... Hope to explore some eastern wa mines and and what not hopefully in the next few months! check out brians89 site...
Soggy, you interested in a trip like that?
