Any back way out of Vancouver/lower mainland?

Hello, all

Does anyone know if there's a passable route that will take you from Surrey/Delta (or thereabouts) north to Hope or anywhere north/northwest of Hope, without relying on the main highways?

If so, what kind of vehicle would be required to make the trip?
