Default Over the Coast Range 03-08-08

Tour Announcement
Over the Coast Range
March 8, 2008
Springtime has almost started, sounds like a good time to head back to the hills and cross the coast range.

This trip will start off in Newberg, meeting point will be the Shari's at the west end of town right on 99W. After kicking the tires, we'll depart by 9:30 headed out hwy 240 to Carlton then up and over the hills, following the Nestucca River byway. Before we reach Blaine, we'll turn back up into the hills and come down through the Trask River Drainage into Tillamook
After lunch in Tillamook and perhaps a tour of the World Famous Cheese Factory, there'll be two options. You can either return to Portland via hwy 6 or head south the Hebo and attempt driving to the top of Mt Hebo, though at this point, there's around seven feet of snow up there.
This'll probably be a high-clearance vehicle trip, trucks and suvs, 4x4 recomended though not probably not required though we could still see some snow up in the higher elevations.
Hope to see you there on CB CH 4. I'll be in my Cherokee with the Backroad Drivers sticker

That might be fun. I'll see if the kids want to go.

As a matter of fact, I just went up there with a couple of friends a few weeks ago. Its a nice, fairly quick hike, as long as you don't mind going up and down the steep walls of the cliff..

The Mt. Hebo portion of the trip will probably not happen. I've gotta be back in Portland earlier than I thought. The trip WILL still go to Tillamook.

So, is anybody planning on coming on this trip? I've gotten one RSVP off list. Anybody else?

Sure wish we could go, but we are in CA and will be here during your tour. One suggestion, send a last call to the BDNW list. Take care and have fun.
