Mt Hood snow day

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a place to go to take the kids out for a snow day. I'd like to avoid the tourist places if possible. Just some where where I can take the kids for the afternoon to play in the snow.

Trillium Lake is a cool spot. If there is snow when you get to Gvt. Camp then take a right just past there to goto Trillium Lake otherwize there are a few other off-road places up a lil ways further where there will probably NOT be a lot of ppl. Clear Lake is a bigger lake, with many back roads to adventure. Skyline Rd. off hwy 26 goes to Abott Rd. any roads off there should be covered in snow. Just saw this thread, a little late, I know. A popular place to go is up along 224 area or towards Goat Mountain, Plenty of snowy hillsides up there
