We are especially looking for suggestions for January, February and March road trips. Any ideas?

Default Modoc NF Back Country Discovery Route

I am leading a trip thru the Modoc NF following this section of the California the Back Country Discovery Route.

Dates are:
July 10 Leave for Klamath Falls.

July 11 Medicine Lake, lookouts, Lave Beds NM, and west including the optional 24 mile 4x4 section. I expect the section to be more rough than tough.

July 12 Continue on to the S. Warner mountains. Rock hounding opportunities here.

July 13 Finish route - Possible drive thru part of the Fremont NF, Gearhard Wilderness, Sycan Marsh, etc.

Email me if you are interested.

Thanks for the info, Dick. You are more than welcome to post your event on the Backroad Drivers Northwest list and we will add it to the 2008 Calendar. In the mean time I will pencil it in and hold it open for you. Your dates happen to be the same week as the annual Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association Trail Jamboree, but I doubt there will be much conflict within our group.

Not sure how I post it to the calendar.

Do I just copy/modify and re-post it?

Sure, that's good. Just something to let the other subscribers know what you are planning and allow them an opportunity to comment and commit.

Your plans sound good to me and I hope we, or maybe just me in this case, can manage to attend. I already have plans during that week, but might break them for your tour. It really sounds like fun.

I would suggest that you start a new thread with the tentative schedule. You can always post the meeting place and time as the date approaches if you don't have it nailed down. The information you emailed in an attachment would be good information to include in the thread at some point. Be sure to post updates every once in awhile to keep the thread open and on the front page.

Actually what I had in mind was to post your ideas to the Backroad Drivers Northwest group email list. Send it out to everyone on the list and let them comment. As an example I will send one similar about a 4-day trip we are planning to the Owyhee and if you wish you can do the same after reading mine. Post it to BackroadDrivers@yahoogroups.com

I found your addition to the 2008 Events Calendar and cleaned it up a little, thanks.

Hey, I've got a few thoughts in my head about tours, a summertime trip over the old Barlow Road.
I've also been browsing maps trying to scout a route along the crest of the Coast Range which could possibly be a winter time run. I might even be able to get something up in the next month or two....

This is a nice one day trip. You can combine it with a trip to Badger Lake for overnight camping.

You can run into snow pretty easily.
I have done a route from the Columbia River to Marys Peak. It is a two or three day drive. As it has been several years, I am sure there are closed roads due to washouts, fallen trees, etc. but it was fun to do. Took me two plus years. It is scheduled to be a Oregon Back Country Discovery Route if Leonard ever gets the map made. Hint - Sawmill Road is a good place to start.
