Over the Hill Mid-Week Tour 09/19/07 Over the Hill Mid-Week Tour
September 19, 2007
Sorry for the short notice, but it just happened that
way. Some of us folks who have time in the middle of
the week, mainly the "over the hill" bunch, are
planning a day-trip via Forest Service roads on the
eastern slopes of the Cascades. Starting from the
Naches River and Highway 410 we will follow FS roads
over Manastash Ridge, Taneum Ridge and South Cle Elum
Ridge, "over the hills", to the outskirts of Cle Elum
where we will stop for lunch at the historic (over the
hill) Milwaukee Depot Caf?.
Everyone is welcome to join in and if you can make the
trip we are meeting at Gold Creek Station Restaurant,
18431 State Route 410. They serve terrific breakfasts
at reasonable prices so come early for breakfast or
coffee and plan to leave the parking area by 10:00 AM.
Look for our red Ford Bronco II and we will monitor
channel 22 on the CB radio.
If you are coming from the Puget Sound area you will
see some of the most fantastic scenery in all of the
Pacific Northwest. Take State Route 410 through
Enumclaw and follow the signs to Chinook Pass and
Yakima. (No you are not going all the way into Yakima,
just in that direction). Gold Creek Restaurant is
approximately 29 miles from the summit of Chinook
Pass. At about 27 miles you will pass Whistlin' Jack
Lodge and Shell Gas Station on the right and Gold
Creek Restaurant will be a little over two miles down
the road on the left.
If you are coming from Yakima or White Pass take US
Highway 12 toward Naches. At the intersection of US 12
and SR 410, about 5 miles west of Naches, go straight
onto SR 410 and follow the scenic Naches River to Gold Creek
Restaurant. The restaurant is approximately 17 miles
up the highway from the intersection and it is the
only business on the right-hand side of the road.
Hope to see you there!
