Tour Announcement

Central and Southern Oregon
October 6-7, 2007

We are planning a trip from Sisters, Oregon, south
through the Deschutes National Forest to Three Creeks
Lake. Then via unimproved Forest Service Road 370 to
the Cascade Lakes Highway near Mt Bachelor and check
out some of the High Cascade Lakes.

We will continue South via FS roads to Highway 58 and on
to Klamath Falls. We also plan to stop at the Walker
Mountain fire tower and do some exploring around North
Klamath Lake Marsh.

After spending Saturday night in Klamath Falls we plan
on following the Klamath River back to Interstate-5 at
Yreka, California.

The FR 370 road will probably require a high clearance
vehicle, definitely good truck tires, but 4x4 should not
be necessary unless it snows. We will be at 7,000 ft.
elevations on FR 370 as well as at the fire tower. We
don't expect the water depth at the Tumalo River ford
to be more than a foot deep this time of the year unless
we get an early rain or snow in which case we will play
it by ear.

If you are interested in any or all of the trip, let us
know and we will set a time and place to meet in Sisters.

Rich & Jan from Aloha

I wish we could make it to this, but we're going to be in S. Oregon about two weeks before that, I don't think we'll want to head down there again so soon.

My husband and I went to school in K Falls. I highly recommend you take a little time to hit the Lava Beds across the border in CA while you're there. If you call ahead you might be able to get a guided tour of Fern Cave at the Lava Beds Nat. Monument. That's the only way to get to see Fern Cave, but it's worth it for the ancient petrographs on the walls. There are also lots of other lava tube caves you can explore on your own. As I recall the visitors center at the wildlife refuge there is pretty impressive too.

Count on Evelyn and me being there. We are especially looking forward to driving the Forest Service roads along the Klamath River. Bet its real pretty in there. We are planning to drive the F-150 pickup and will follow you guys from Sisters to Yreka then head to Albany to visit our daughter and family for a couple of days. The whole trip sounds like fun!

I'm thinking I might be able to join you guys for at least some of the trip on Saturday. I'm going to a concert in Bend Saturday night but I don't see any reason I can't join you in Sisters and come along at least to Cascade Lakes hwy and perhaps all the way to 58.

That would be great. Sounds like it might work into your schedule very nicely. We are looking forward to seeing you.
