Mark your calendars (they should already be marked, its in the group calendar) for October 22nd as we head up into the Blue Mountains of NE Oregon when the fall colors are at their best for a nice forest roads drive along the crest of the range.
We will meet in Weston, at the Long Branch Cafe at 201 E Main st. Come early for breakfast, I heard they're delicious and filling. We will leave at 9am and head up hwy 204 through Tollgate, almost to Elgin, before we turn south on the Summit road, which we will follow all the way down to I-84. At that point, we will leave the summit of the Blues but will continue on forest roads to the Tiptop Lookout, a few miles south of Kamela. After checking out the view there, we continue south to Indian Lake, a great place for camping and fishing if anybody needs a place to stay. The trip will continue up Rocky Ridge road, likely the roughest road of the trip, which will take us along a ridge before dropping us down into Pilot Rock.
Expect around 6 hours of driving time from Weston to Pilot Rock, plus any stops in between for bathroom breaks, scenery and bs'ing (not that we ever do any of that) Also, packing a lunch would be a good idea, we won't be passing any restaurants along the way.
While we'll mostly be on gravel FS roads, there are a few rough stretches to 4x4 will be good to have. Also, durable tires. We'll be on CB ch 4 and I'm hoping I won't be the only Ham there.
Hope to see you all there.
