Thread: Mt. Baker, south side trip

  1. Mt. Baker, south side trip Oct 24th.

I have heard interest in a trp on Mt Bakers south side. I will lead a trip in Oct if there is any interest. I cant do it on the 31st, but if anyone has any ideas for a date that WILL work, please chime in. If there are no date preferences by this next weekend (20th), I will pick a date and see if there are major objections to it at that time.

    OCT 24th.

Lets meet at the cafe in Lyman on hiway 20 @8ish for breakfast and leave around 9.

We will drive into Schribers meadows where the snow park is and then up to Rainbow falls and on to the end of that road where we will see hanging glaciers on the big mountain. From there we will drive a few various forest service rds and make the run to the end of the lk where there is beautiful braided gravel bars on the upper Baker river. A trip is in order to see the dams that form the lake too while we are there. We may possably see deer, bears and some small game animals and birds. Bring your cameras! If the weather cooperates, there will be many excelant photo ops for those with an artistic twist!

The roads are very well groomed now and should still be in good shape by then, so airing down isnt nessessary. Some of the driving will be on blacktop. Ill post a link to the cafe and maybe some pics I took yesterday.

Anything you do in the great outdoors, CANT be ALL bad!
As long as you can do it in the back country!

  2. My name is Chris and I just joined the forum so you can see my Introduction on the intro page. Anyways. My wife and I are both firmiliar with that area and camp at the far end of Baker lake frequently. Anyways, we are wanting to go check out some of the old logging roads up there sometime. So depending when you are thinking, we would be down. We each drive Jeeps.

  3. Since no one has replied so far, lets plan this for sat Oct 24th. If any have objections, sound off and be heard! LOL I am easy, so dont be shy! LOL see you then.

  4. That works for me. I will watch for changes, but look forward to meeting everyone. And Hopefully my Wife can make it also. So maybey two rigs here.

  5. I've been sitting quiet on this one, but thought it was time to speak up. We are possible maybe's. I don't dare say for sure whether we will make it, but if we do Saturday, October 24th is the best day for us.

  6. It's on my calendar. Hmmmm I wonder if the fall color change will still be bursting out at that time?? Would be a real nice bonus!!

And let's pretend that I don't know the area AT ALL (have not been that way since early 90's). Lyman Cafe no problem but what road/roads would we be going up. Already building a gps map of the area and would like to add waypoints to it???

  7. Ricky, Ill try and get some road numbers and way points for you in the next day or few. I have the forest service maps of that area now. We go from hwy 20 up the baker lk rd to boulder creek bridge, then up a forest rd and so on. Will post them in here if I can so others can do the same as you are doing.
