Thread: PDX Area Christmas Tree Snow Run 12-13-08

Default PDX Area Christmas Tree Snow Run 12-13-08

I ran a poll on NAXJA and the consensus was to have the trip December 13th.
Meeting is at the Estacada Ranger Station on Hwy 224 at the west end of Estacada. Meet at 9am cb channel 4. You can get a christmas tree permit there. Trip will go through Estacada then south on hwy 211 to Hillockburn road. We'll take that East up into the Mt Hood National Forest where the road turns in NF-45. The ultimate goal is to get to the top of Goat Mountain and of course get a Christmas Tree.
You'll want good 4wheel drive but shouldn't need anything beyond that. We had several stock rigs last year that were able to keep up with all the big boys. Tow points front and rear are a good idea though....
    Hope to see you there.

It's on my calendar. I'll bring a kid, or two, or three. Maybe even the wife. We probably won't get a tree. I can bring a chainsaw and/or handsaw if needed. About how long do you think the run will be, i.e. finish time to get back to start point?

Right on, it'll be nice to see you guys again. You can make it as short as you want really. Backtracking out is a lot quicker than going in. I know it took us a good two hours to get up to Goat Mountain from the main road but coming out we were able to get to the gas station in Estacada in 40 minutes. I'd say a minimum of four hours to enjoy the snow. Last year there were people who were on the road for 15 hours. You pick how long I guess is what I'm saying.

Scott, it'll be good to see you and your dad again.

This event is still happening. I went up today to scout out some areas for trees. Interestingly enough, there's no snow up there, clear up to the top of Goat Mountain at 4200ft. I'm hoping since we've still got almost two weeks there'll be some snow up there. Otherwise I guess it'll just be an exploring/wheeling trip. Enough roads were open today I was actually able to make it all the way down to Clear Lake below the summit. Hopefully that'll be the case again.

Is anybody bringing their dog(s)? A friend wants to bring his but she is shy around other dogs so he won't bother bringing her cause she'll just hide in the truck the who time

No dogs here, just kids if that counts.
