Here is your chance to experience some of the premier wheeling available in Eastern Or. Virtue Flat is an OR OHV Area about 5 miles east of Baker City. It is packed with trails that range from easy.....in the distance and could be done in your fwd car.....
To this........
There is a lot of this.......
These images give you an idea of what type of terrain you are going to encounter. If you have a mostly stock 4wd vehicle, it will do fine.....you just need to take the bypasses. I will either be in my WJ or my son's TJ...
Be warned however, that there is a high probability of body damage if you try to run with the big dogs......and you will get some sagebrush pin striping when bypassing the chutes.........
The fun starts at 0900 at the staging area on Ruckles Creek Road.
Follow State Highway 86 east from Baker City, at the crest of Flagstaff Hill turn south on Ruckles Creek Road - opposite the entrance to the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Proceed about one mile to the gravel staging area on the north side of the road.
If you want to eat breakfast, I will most likely stop at the Sumpter Junction Restaurant at exit 304 around 0730. Bring some food/snacks to eat along the trail and this will be an alcohol free day while on the trails.
Hope to see you there!

Will you be able to do some wheeling........?
I would love to explore the Virtue Flats ORV Area, but I can't make it this time. Evelyn and I are hosting the Backroad Drivers 10th Anniversary Mountain Loop Scenic Byway and Fall Colors Tour in Granite Falls and Darrington, Washington the same day.
Like Ryan, we stopped at VF during one of our Backroad Drivers tours, but we were driving our Ford Escape and it didn't have the ground clearance to take us places we wanted to go. I actually drove into one of the shrub covered two-tracks off the highway, but the sagebrush was scraping the bottom of the Escape so hard we had to turn around. We started down Ruckles Creek Road to the staging area, but it was getting late and we had eaten enough dust for the day so we decided to save it for another time.
Thanks for the invite, Hutch, and one of these days we will see Virtue Flats up close.
