Oregon Department of Forestry News FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Distribution: NW Media Aug. 19, 2008 Contact: Denise Berkshire 503-815-6803 ‘Return from the Burn” set Aug. 23-24 at Tillamook Forest Center The “Return from the Burn” event at the Tillamook Forest Center Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24, commemorates the recovery of the northwestern Oregon forests from a series of catastrophic wildfires that began in 1933. The largest reforestation effort ever undertaken restored the forest to health. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1933 Tillamook Fire which shaped the Tillamook State Forest we know today. Throughout the weekend, there will be special guests and activities representing the history of the forest before, during and after the fires. The celebration will include:
The Tillamook Forest Center is located at 45500 Wilson River Highway (Highway 6) at milepost 22. The center is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. More information about the center can be found at its Web site.
