‘Return from the Burn” set Aug. 23-24 at Tillamook Forest Center

The “Return from the Burn” event at the Tillamook Forest Center Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24, commemorates the recovery of the northwestern Oregon forests from a series of catastrophic wildfires that began in 1933.

The largest reforestation effort ever undertaken restored the forest to health. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1933 Tillamook Fire which shaped the Tillamook State Forest we know today.

Throughout the weekend, there will be special guests and activities representing the history of the forest before, during and after the fires. The celebration will include:
  • <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">local storyteller Dave Barrett performing his lively presentation “Talkin’ Tillamook” <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">old-time ax men sharing their lives as loggers <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">the Legacy of Fire movie stars signing DVDs <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">historian Ed Kamholz will be sharing letters of first-hand fire accounts <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">Smokey Bear visits with his fire fighting friends <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">the pioneer music experience from Rick Meyers <LI class=MsoNormal>display of safe burning practices and alternatives to burning <LI class=MsoNormal>fire-safe burn barrels for sale <LI class=MsoNormal style="COLOR: black">a chance to be a fire lookout
