    Default Out and about - 15 - 16 July 2015

We wanted to take a day trip to check a few places in the Willamette Valley.

At the last minute I suggested we take our overnight bags - just in case.

Left Beaverton about 7 am and drove to Albany where we turned left and headed towards Lebanon.
Just past Lebanon we turned back north and drove McDowell Creek Falls SP. At the park we did the hike to
the two high falls and walked a short ways out to overlook the small falls.

Then over hill and dale to Brownsville. Been 'forever' since I have been to Brownsville and I did not
remember it looking this neat. One of those places that appear to have been bypassed by time.
This is the old Brownsville, not the one on the highway coming from I-5.

Then west over I-5, turn right and drive to the Thompson's Mills Heritage Stage Park.
    Neat place. Glad we stopped.

Then into Shedd, Halsey, I-5, Eugene, Hwy 58 and West Fir where we checked out the old covered bridge to sawmill
that used to be there. The bridge was built to support loaded logging trucks and it is stout (and still in VG shape).

We continued up highway 58 to Salt Creek Falls where we refreshed our memories of the falls.

Then over the hill, La Pine, The Lava Cave and into Bend for the night.

Stayed at a motel in the Old Mill district. Been quite a few years since we had visited the Old Mill area
and Wow - has it been jazzed up. A very nice place. The river was full of inner-tubers, paddle boarders, kayakers and swimmers.
We walked around the area, had a nice meal and collapsed at the motel. A perfect 72 degrees.

Friday we drove home via the Santiam Pass.

Love the LaPine area. Lots of lava tubes over there to explore.

Sounds like a really nice trip. No rush, no schedule to keep, just enjoy. Thanks.

Trying to get ready for the wife's retirement next year so we are experimenting with trip formats.

PS: Big quilt show at the Old Mill in Bend all this month.
