Default Planning on an Early Fire Season

It seems to me that if this dry weather continues into the spring we should be planning on an early and long lasting fire season this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they close some of our favorite areas to vehicular travel before summer ever begins. If so I suppose we should be planning some events in eastern slope forests and shrub-steppe country in early spring. That works okay for us backroad explorers, but for you 4x4 guys and gals this year may turn out to be a non-event because many of the trails don't normally open until mid-June. I sure hope I'm wrong!

Even though I would like areas to be snow-free to do some exploring, its vital to get the snowpack. Hopefully February and March will provide heavy snowfall in the mountains.

Hopefully is right! As you point out, Steve, we have only two months to make up for an otherwise dry year.
