Thread: Ruger flat top .44spcl!

  1. Ruger flat top .44spcl!

I dont know how many of you have heard that ruger has been making a very short run of their Flat top anniversary models in .44spcl to be distributed through only one of their distributors. They have said that they are only going to make 1000 of them in 4 5/8 and 1000 in 5 1/2 inch barells. I got VERY lucky and was able to get one of the shorter ones! WOOHOO! This is a gun that duplicates what I have been trying to come up with for probably 25 years! It is a blue one and after I did a complete action job on it, complete with a trigger over travel stop, shoots like a million bucks! ( I am a gunsmith who specialised in custom tunning Rugers, when I had my shop) I was bustin clay birds and pieces of clay birds at about 30 yards very consistantly with it and a hand load shooting a 240 grain semi wadcutter at apx 1100 fps. This load is basically a mid range .44 mag load. This load is WAY too heavy to be using in any of the older 44spcls (factory loads are about 750-800FPS) Way accurate, very comfortable to shoot, compact and easy to carry. What more could one ask for in a mountain gun that will see daily carry in the back country! I will include a picture of the rig I built to carry it in.

  2. These are going to be regular production items this year due to the demand for the special run.

Ruger New Model Blackhawk Blued Single-Action Revolver Models

Model numbers NVB-444 and NVB-4455.......and they are Flattops.

Here is a picture of one of my357s. I have done the trigger, modified the pawl for free spin operation, and installed an XR3-RED Grip Frame. The XR3 that comes on these Ann. Flattops is just too small for my hands.

    They are great shooters.

  3. Kewl looking flat top guy! I have both the 357 and the 44mag flat tops as well as the special. I saw that they are going to offer it just after I posted this! I wish they would do them in stainless too! that would be even better. I like the grip as they come, but it does make it a two finger grip for my mig mitts too. I came up with a very easy way to put in an over ravel stop on the trigger using JB weld. PM me if you are interested and Ill show you. Which free spin pawl did you go with? I am going to fit and install a super black hawk hammer on my special, as well as pull the bbl and put a recessed crown on it. The white outline rear sight blade from a reg Ruger rear sight fits the micro too.

  4. I modified the stock pawl. I will try to get you a picture. I would like the info on the over travel stop! Go ahead and send it in a pm and I'll try to get you a pic of the mod!

Pm me your email and I'll send the picture.

  5. Not mine, but I found a picture for you:

    Very easy to do!

  6. Ill take a few pics when I change out the hammer in the next week or so. I am in the proces of modifying a bisley hammer to fit to my flat top 44. If yuo take the revolver apart, you will see where the top of the trigger comes in contact with the rear of the inside frame. This is where you build it up with JB weld and then after it hardens, file it so the trigger just breaks. Ill post some pics to make this very clear.
