Did a weekend run to some of the higher peaks around John Day.
Friday we drove to Pendleton and stayed overnight after meeting up with another rig.
The next morning we met up with a 3rd rig and drove to Ukiah where we met the fourth rig.
Continued south on 395 to Riddle and turned left on county road 20.
Just past Galena we detoured up the hill for several miles and back down to the Vinegar Hill turn off.
The first 8 miles of the Vinegar Hill road were smooth gravel but the last 6 were unmaintained road and the going slowed way down. The last 1/2 mile to the knob at the top was narrow and 4x4 low. 8000' feet at the top. No sign of the old lookout. Great views.
Then back down and gas/food at Austin Jct.
The original plan was to do Dixie Butte also but we were running out of time so on to Logan Valley and Indian Spring Butte at 7982'. Very smooth drive up.
Camped overnight at the Murray Creek CG in Logan Valley. We were lucky to get the last spots available as it was the first day of archery hunting season.
Sunday we drove to John Day and then home.
We had almost perfect weather but it was VERY smoky around the Bend/Madras area due to all the range/forest fires.
Good trip. Still lot's of roads to explore in that area.
These are the SPOT locations I sent via satellite.
