Nice pics and neat country. Which way did you go in to Ruckel Junction, out of Gibbon, Tollgate or Mt Emily Road? Our daughter and her husband live at Meacham and we have headed out to Ruckel Junction via the Mt. Emily Road on spur-of-the-moment backroad trips. Montana's Big Sky Country has nothing on Oregon's Blue Mountains.

Nice report & pix, Warrpath. I have to agree for sure, that's one of my favorite areas. Great views & great history too...& fun roads!

That's funny and a small world, too. Several years ago my son-in-law took me for a ride from La Grande, up the face of Mt. Emily, over the top to Ruckel Jct. and down to Gibbon. About 2/3 of the way down the hill from Ruckel we met two old ladies driving a Plymouth sedan. We were amazed that they would attempt to drive their low-slung sedan over that road. Further down the hill we came to a washout with ruts and holes that caused my son-in-law to pick a line with the pickup. We wondered how in the heck those old ladies ever made it through that mess in their Plymouth. Maybe they were related to the guy in the VW Golf. Small world.

Looks like a great trip. Lots of great scenery in that part of the country.
