Wow, Jerry, you just have too much fun!

Did you happen to find any repeaters south of Burns? I've searched and nothing popped up.

I'll be monitoring the High Desert linked repeaters as we come over through Prineville. Should be 146.7 in Bend and 147.3 in Burns and they link to 147.28 in Juntura also. Makes it kind of nice when you're traveling Hwy 20.

I raised someone in Hines last year on the way back from our Owyhee Canyonlands trip and yakked for a while.

We plan to get into Burns late afternoon before dinner time. If you guys are coming down about then I'll try to raise you. If not, I'll try your cell phone.

Like you I couldn't find any repeaters closer than 80 miles from Fields and who knows whether we can hit them from that location. It will be fun trying. Evelyn and I should reach town about the same time as you anticipate and I will have the 2-meter scanning, the CB tuned to Ch 22 and the cell phone on. If you call on 2-meters please stretch out your call so it doesn't slip between between scan sequences.

  3. Name that rig

I have an all band Icom 706MKIIG installed in the pickup with HamStick type antennas for 80, 40, 20 and 10 meters that affix to the winch mount. The 144/440 antenna is on the right fender and the CB antenna (technically an 11 meter HF radio) is on the left fender.
    Time for a naming contest..

I finished tuning one of my "Ham Sticks", a cheapy ham antenna that mounts to the winch bracket, and I decided to give it a test from the hill behind our house. Hell, there were so many antennas on the front of my rig I couldn't see the road. If you are nice I'll show it to you next weekend.

Probably not, Mick. Most of the 2-meter antennas are tuned out of the box. Many are one-piece units that have no set screws. But, the HF stuff definitely needs tuning.
