Thread: safe soap????????

  1. safe soap????????

Does anyone have any idea if there is a "riversafe" (or eco friendly) soap or body wash available? Not that I would ever plan on bathing directly in the river, but run off and such as it is, it would be nice to know that what we are using in the out doors to bathe with is safe to end up in the water system! Thanks!
Anything you do in the great outdoors, CANT be ALL bad!
As long as you can do it in the back country!

  2. I don't remember the name, but REI and any place catering to hikers is sure to have some biodegradable soap.

I've always used something similar to this for outdoor use. Used it with bag showers, washing dishes, etc. I don't use anything like this directly in a stream however as you pointed out out.

  4. Grandma's Lye Soap

    Grandma's Lye Soap
IT'S IN THE BOOK (Little Bo Peep)

Turn on your speakers and listen to the original
"Grandma's Lye Soap" song at the end

    http://www.turoks.net/Cabana/sounds/ItsInTheBook.mp3

    You remember Grandma's Lye soap,
Good for everything in the home
And the secret was in the scrubbing
It wouldn't suds, and couldn't foam!

Then let us sing right out of Grandma's Lye Soap
Used for everything, everything on the place,
The pots and kettles, the dirty dishes
And for your hands, and for your face.

    Little Herman and brother Thurman
Had an aversion to washing their ears
Grandma scrubbed them with the lye soap
And they haven't heard a word in years!

Then let us sing right out of Grandma's Lye Soap
Sing aloud all over the place,
The pots and kettles, the dirty dishes
And also hands, and for your face.

Mrs. O'Malley, out in the valley
    Suffered from ulcers, I understand
She swallowed a cake of Grandma's Lye Soap
Has the cleanest ulcers in the land!

Then let us sing right out of Grandma's Lye Soap
Sing aloud all over the place,
The pots and kettles, the dirty dishes
And the hands, and for your face.

Maybe that's why I don't hear too well anymore...And I thought it was old age.

I thought I might hear from you, Mick. Do you remember that old record, It's in the Book? My folks used to play it when it first came out in 1952. Of course I wasn't born yet, but I thought you might remember it!

Yeah, I'm afraid I remember that one too. Of course I wasn't either but it may have been in a former lifetime...

Hadn't thought about that record in a longggg time.

Here's a linky to it: YouTube - "It's in the Book" - Johnny Standley

Couldn't figure out how to embed it.
