Default Hot, but plugging away

It's too darned hot to be working on my rigs, but I've been "plugging" away at it anyway. Since yesterday afternoon I have been addressing some "power" issues with the Cherokee that inspired me to "charge" forth to remedy the problem despite the heat.

Technically speaking I plugged in the battery charger, went in the house, cranked up the air conditioner and leaned back in my recliner while the battery was being re-powered.

I know what you mean Jerry.

I started rebuilding the LS Trac Loc at 7:30 yesterday morning, hoping I'd beat the hot part of the day. By 2PM, I was in the recliner with the AC on too.

Today is replace the front brake lines and Pitman arm.

Make sure your BII is ready for Liberty on the 12th!

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who escaped the heat by retreating to the recliner?! Glad to know I have company.

Gotta' pass on Liberty because we are tied up that weekend and I doubt I would take the BII on those trails anyway. My BII was built for backroads, not so much for off-road trails. It will handle easy to moderately rated 4x4 trails, but anything beyond that would just tear it up. I have a modified Wrangler for the serious stuff.

The BII has a 2.5" to 3" James Duff Series III lift so it still sits pretty low, plus it's running D35 and 8.8 axles that take up more ground clearance than the original light duty setup. I cut the wheel wells to accommodate 32" tires and covered them with flares. So you see, it is not built as an off-road rig, but it is more than capable of most anything we would find on the backroads. Besides, it's still shiny and I want to keep it that way!

Default HOT!!, but plugging away.

101 yesterday, no air conditioning, I think I will move in with Jerry. I am saving all my projects until next weekend, it's supposed to be 30 degrees cooler.

Well, front brake lines were done by 9am.

By 8:30, it was already 80*. The pitman arm will have to wait.

Jerry, the only element of your rationalization that counts is the "it's still shiny" comment. Otherwise, the BII is perfect for the trails we have encountered there in the past. It's built just like my X, same parts.

It's sounding like Paul will be spending the summer in Florida on some contract jobs and might miss our Liberty party and any other tours until mid Aug. He just got back yesterday afternoon and claimed this weather was 'nice and cool' compared to where he was last week.

We're seeing 92* in the shade right now. Gotta go stand in front of the window unit for a while

I thought ground clearance would be an issue at Liberty? Maybe not. I have driven the BII over the Naches Pass Trail at least 3 times, on Tripod and several other trails in the Manastash area and on a particularly tight trail in the buck meadows area without getting more than mild brush scratches. Perhaps it would do okay at Liberty. I wish I could go with you guys to find out.

The 3:00 PM NOAA report said 99* at the Yakima airport and they predict 103* by late afternoon. Worse still is that they are predicting close to 100* for the next 3 days, then near 90 after that. Whew! I wonder if there is anything good on TV?

Too bad Paul couldn't find a way of visiting Florida in the winter! Life is just bass ackwards, isn't it?

Ain't that the truth! I will have to pass on Liberty next week, duty calls... And yes, there was a financial compensation penalty for me having to leave the best weather in the PNW to suffer through most of July and August in Tampa!!!

Hey, there's the man himself! How's everything down in the swamps? I looked up the forecast for Tampa and it's predicted to be about 5* cooler than Yakima for the next week, but didn't see anything about the humidity. Other than the temp, how do you like Tampa? I've never been there, but I liked the east coast and panhandle of Florida...in January!

Small world, as I type this the photo banner at the top of this page is currently showing our rigs stopped near Colockum Pass after running Whiskey Dick roads. Paul's hood is open and behind the camera, out of shutter range, the hood on my Cherokee is open as well. And we thought that was a hot day!

Sorry you can't make upcoming events, Paul, but... Maybe we can put something "special" together for you when you get settled back home.
Jerry

Anyway,

Hey Jerry -

Back in T-Town now, but my last assignment was at USSOCOM at MacDill AFB in Tampa - - actually lived in St. Pete at the time, and the humidity is a huge factor in computing the effects of weather. "It's a dry heat", although usually a snide after-comment, really does make a difference...

The Tampa Bay area is a decent area, the best months, in my opinion, are October- December and March through May. . . but my wife and I knew after the service we'd move back to this region, the summers, the water, and terrain!! Florida is just too flat!
