My weekend machine is slightly out of the ordinary for how I use it. (though not too much as there are several others with them that I go out to the woods with)
1983 Subaru GL 4x4.
Dual range trans (back when they use to put real part time 4WD in the Soobs)
Extra lighting.
Oversized tires on Peugeot 505 wheels.
Slightly beefed up suspension.
CB.
All the recovery gear I'll ever need (but only used on others so far)
Gutted interior to make room for the full size spare to sit on the rear floor for low CG and for a DIY gear holder in back.
GPS. (always carry maps/compass as well in case it dies on me)
100 amp alternator out of a early 80s GM pickup.
Locked rear diff.
Recently built it a tougher front bumper and did a little front fender "clearancing".
Always keep a current OHV permit.
Various other odds and ends.
Lots of rock rash.
A few pics.
TSF a few weeks ago.
Coming up Fire Break 5 last year. The group of Jeeps I was with were just loving it.
Something more appropriate for this time of year. (I think we were on our way to Gunsight or Badger lake... again last year)
Sand Lake last summer working my way to WCSS 10.
So that's a bit of my rig.
Does not seem like much but I can hang on all but the nastiest stuff out at TSF. And it's been letting me beat on it for over two years with great reliability.
And it gets almost 35 MPG (hwy with a bit of city)
So I'm wanting to do more "expedition" type trips with it.![]()

Thanks for the welcome.
Yeah it's a ton of fun. Almost replaced it with a Jeep a few months back....
But I decided that I'm not done with it yet and I've had too many good times in it that I figure I'll keep it going till it just can't anymore.
Already have a new engine sitting in the garage.
And a small lift is in the plans as well.
