Thread: Pop top installed on my van

  1. 31 nights? OH MAN I'm jealous. I think I camped out fifteen nights which is better for me than some recent years...

I was thinking about your van yesterday Tom, I think what it needs is a picture of you wrestling a tiger airbrushed on the side. What do you think? YEAH

Thats hilarious, I'm liking it! I need to photo shop some prototypes, including one with an XJ in the background with firewood on the roofrack!

Ryan, did you do Fortune Creek Trail to Gallaher Head Lake last year? I want to some Tillamook stuff this year, hopefully with some easy 4x4 similar to Fortune Creek.

  3. I didn't though I did read some trip reports from your trip and others...

I'm sure Dick or Brian or myself could come up with something plenty entertaining. I know there are OHV trails in TSF that you could do, though I'd wonder about your breakover angle, there's a few spots where I had a problem before I lifted my rear up two inches.
I've also heard about some "interesting" roads from the folks over at NWOS. Something along the lines of an overnight trip from hwy 26 clear down to Carlton which, playing around on google maps only shows to be around 100 miles, its supposed to be a lot of less maintained forest roads/trails which would of course increase travel time.

  4. Tom:

I have spent quite a bit of time in the Oregon coast range from the Columbia river to Mary's Peak west of Corvallis. That was 4 or 5 years ago so I'm sure some of the roads have been closed/revised.

Other than the Tillamook OHV area, I found few 4x4 roads.

But there are interesting drives. I scouted a path for a future OBCDR route from the river to Mary's Peak.

Let me know if there is any particular area you are interested in.

  5. I know a place in Hillsboro that can make a vinal vehical wrap of any thing you can come up with, I think he can go up to 4 feet high by 100 feet long. that should cover an Astro.

    Hi Rich!
I have seen several of those huge vinyl photos attached to various vehicles and some of them look really neat. I wonder how much it would cost to cover the side of a van or the lower portion of a pickup?

  8. Hi Tom & Jen -

Yep, the Expo guy was a guy I met at Moab in the Spring of 2000...

Speaking of camping, and Moab, - - that's where you guys need to go camping this year! Watersports in the Colorado River, mountain biking, two National Parks, fourwheeling on 50+ trails.

Great stuff, hope to see you on the trails,

  9. Yeah, Paul, Moab is on the list as a multi sport destination.

Speaking of multi sport; i just added another to the list. A Gas Gas 450 fse plated for street use even though its definitely a dirt bike. My front knobby is not DOT approved, and I run a soft compund trials tire in the rear; prefer it to knobbies for western washington's wet roots and rock.

4 stroke, fuel injected, upgrade option Ohlins suspension, Scott steering stabilizer. Also have the computer software to change the fuel injection mapping. I have the factory stock mapping wired to the low beam light switch for really tight trail riding like Tahuya. Hit the high beam switch when the trails open up a bit and it changes to my personal mapping and has a powerband that is unbelievable. Wheelies galore.

License plated and only 250lbs makes a great dingy for the van on trips.
