Steve,

I ran a cam from Delta in a Jeep that I rebuilt in the early 90s. I called them and told them the specs I wanted and it turned out they had shelf grind that was close to an exact match. I was very happy with the result.

At the time they were very cost effective and produced a great product.

FWIW.........

Good luck with the rebuild,

Hutch

They take your tow-capacity of your tow-rig, GVWR of the towed rig, and the weight of their trailer (like nearly 3k lbs for the car-hauler one). If they don't all match up right (right=according to their rules), they refuse to rent.

An easier way to the refusal to rent is to show up with a Ford Explorer!

I have a grandmotherly friend who was moving to Phoenix and needed to tow a small U-Haul trailer with her stuff behind her Explorer. They wouldn't rent it to her. So we picked it up with my pickup and I brought it to her 'sploder and off she went.

She had brake light troubles, so had to bring it by a U-Haul place along her route. They literally forced her to unhitch it and wouldn't let her continue another mile. She ended up having to rent a U-Haul truck and flat-tow her 'sploder the rest of the way. Nice....

Today I picked up my rebuilt short block and head from the machine shop.

Now comes the cleaning, inspection (and buy new parts) and reassembly process.

I need to go buy a small parts washer to make the job easier. Probably Harbor Freight for me.

I'm going to replace all the hoses, belts, thermostat, etc while it's apart. I noticed that my radiator appears to be leaking so that may need a rebuild. Who knows what else I'll find during the inspection process.

No estimated time frame when it will be done. I know I'm tired of being a one vehicle family.

Here are some photos of the short block and head.

More to follow.

After a busy week, I was finally able to order the remaining parts (hopefully that’s all) that I need to assemble the 3FE engine for my 80-series Toyota Land Cruiser.

I ordered the factory Toyota head gasket, oil pan gasket, thermostat, hoses and belts. I already have an aftermarket head gasket and oil pan gasket in my possession, however with the amount of money I’m investing in my FJ80, I’m going to do things right.

I was also able to borrow a parts washing tank from my cousin to make things easier.

It's coming together slowly but surely.

Default specs

Just in case you don't have this on hand:
Torque Specs:
Intake manifold = Large bolts 51#, Small bolts 37#, Nuts 41#.
Exhaust manifold = Large bolts 51#, Small bolts 37#, Nuts 41#.
Flywheel = 64 ft/lbs.
Head Bolts = 90 ft/lbs
Upper intake to lower intake= 18#
Rocker cover nut= 78 ft/lbs
Rocker arm = Large bolt/nut 25#, small bolt 17#
Intake valve lash = .008" cold
Exhaust valve lash = .014" cold
(copied from AERA spec sheet)

Wish I had caught on sooner to your dilemma as engine parts is what I do and I might have been able to offer some assistance.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully all that info is in the Factory Manual, but if not, I'll know where to find it.

How's this going Steve? I know what it is like to be down the Cruiser. What machine shop did you use for the head/block?
