| I think most of us have used hand operated come alongs, you know the ones, $19.95 at the local parts store? Typically they are made of stamped steel, use 1/4" aircraft cable and the pulleys are so sloppy the cable slips off and jams. Most are rated at 2,000 pounds and in my opinion that would be on a good day! If your vehicle doesn't have a winch, or if you need an extra pull in addition to a winch, there are some quality alternatives equipped with 5/16" cable. But, hang onto your wallets because the following three units run in excess of $150 each! WYETH-SCOTT "More Power Puller" ![]() Probably the heaviest built hand operated come along available and rated at 6000 pounds double line capacity https://www.wyeth-scott.com/index.asp MAASDAM POW'R-PULL "Four Ton Pro Cable Puller" ![]() Rated the highest in pulling power at 8000 pounds double line capacity http://www.lewiscontractorsales.com/...DAM_POW_R_PULL COLUMBUS McKINNON "Little Mule Cable Hoist" ![]() A little lighter duty, but still good quality. Double line capacity to 3000 pounds. http://www.amazon.com/Columbus-McKin.../dp/B0002VFE94 Oh, and the next time you see a cheapy brand advertise a rated capacity of 8000 pounds (some even up to 10000 pounds) keep in mind that the nominal breaking strength of 1/4" cable is only 7000 pounds. Rated working load usually has a factor of 5 in the lifting industry, but even with a very liberal factor of 2 the working load of 1/4" cable is only 3,500 pounds and that is under ideal labratory conditions.

| or if you really want to break the bank, their are some others that are $400 plus. ![]() "The Magnum hand winch uses a system where wire rope is pulled through the unit propelled by two interlocking jaws. The jaws pull the cable when in the forward winching mode and also act as an automatic brake. The jaws are self locking with grip increasing with the load." pulling capacity 5,300lb rated lifting capacity 3,500lb unit dimensions 21.5 x 11 x 4" cable length 65.5' cable diameter 0.4" handle length closed 31.5" extended 47"

| I have the Wyeth More Power Puller. Never had to use it other than pulling out a few stumps but I like it. I replaced the steel rope with some 'winch line' to reduce the weight. Haven't taken it with me since I got my winch but always used to carry it 'just in case'. Toy Man |

| I am taking great interest in these hand pullers. I do not want to mount a front winch as my vehicle is used as a DD and in the city a lot as well. Rear hitch mounted winch can work but I figured maybe just go hand power. I have yet to get stuck alone but I am totallllllly pushing my luck ;p |
