I found the Reliance water cans too flimsy for my use. The vent plug kept coming loose and spilling water.

I ordered 4 Scepter 2.5 gallon cans. Two were shipped and the other two are back ordered. What a difference. The Scepter cans are tough and fit in a standard Jerry can holder. I don't know what I will do with the Reliance cans; maybe wave goodbye to them at a garage sale.

Yep - GREAT cans. Both the water and gas cans.

I really banged them around in Mexico.
NO problems.

These are no longer available in the US to civilians, unfortunately. I think Brigade Quartermasters just started refusing non-military orders a week or two ago.

I have heard of a few Canadian dealers who will ship to the US, but I have also heard UPS is refusing to deliver them if you live in a CARB state.

With the small size of my FJ fuel tank, I really needed some decent additional fuel storage. So I ultimately bought a 12 gallon, low profile, marine topside tank from Moeller Marine (a child company of Scepter) and strapped that to the roof. Then I just run a fuel grade PVC hose with a Simple Siphon down to the filler neck and siphon away. Takes less than 5 minutes to siphon the whole 12 gallons into the tank.

Here are some pictures (it's not strapped down, I just threw it up for some quick pics) :

Jeff, I like that. Looks like a very efficient way to carry fuel.

I also siphon out of my 2.5 gal tank on top, it saves a lot of effort unfastening and man-handling it down.

Thanks for sharing.

Default NLA gas cans

Unfortunately, they will no longer sell the fuel cans to the civilian market here in the U.S. The water cans will still be available, but do to the ever growing list of states adopting the "CARB" requirements the fuel cans are no more. Whether you can get a military friend to order for you or not I do not know. Possibly if you want to make a long journey for them you can go across the border and do a little funding of the Canadian retail market. All I know is that right after I bought mine everyone stopped listing them on the web pages and i got a direct email from Sceptor detailing this situation. Maybe some still have stock and will ship, this I also do not know. If you want them, as they do appear to be very good cans, good luck in your search. I'm just glad I got my two when i did. Jim
