Default new Garmin eTrex looks promising

The new 10/20/30 series eTrex are arriving at retailers and a couple of coworkers and I took a look. From the Garmin site's comparison tool, a GPS 62s and eTrex 30 are virtually identical with the eTrex costing $150 less at $299 retail. If you can do with out electronic 3-axis compass, you save $250 with the model 20.

Differences are eTrex has a more square display but roughly similar in size. The display is brighter to me. Battery life is better. eTrex can optionally use Russian satellite system (GLONASS) along with the US system in conjunction or alone. 62s has an external antenna connector, though I haven't found a need to use one on my 60 even under heavy tree cover.

Take a look at the spec comparison- https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare....eProduct=87774

One coworker picked a 30 up today and we found it very good, both in display brightness in the sun and how fast satellites (both systems) were picked up. I am not sure how this got through Garmin's marketing department.

Wow! I have a 60cs that I got years ago. It's old a clunky compared to today's and I've been looking at getting a new one. I had no idea a new line of eTrex was coming out.

I think a 20 would be perfect for me.

This new line really looks like a great deal.
